My Eyes Are Up Here
60 cm x 80 cm
Acrylic Paint on Stretched Canvas
"My Eyes Are Up Here" embodies a western beauty standard, and then brings it crashing down around her with aloofness and resilience. Dressed only in long pearl earrings, the femxle’s status remains calm and elegant in confining surroundings, expressing “I can be naked and you don’t get to touch me”. Having been censored by and grown out of a contextual background provides a uniquely strong identity that is so much more than just sexual. She is objectified while looking like an item on display but, as she lays in her power, her nakedness is not about the audience. She transforms the cool, chaotic eyes wanting and demanding of her into smooth, well blended indifference that defines her external self.
